i looked at a 6101 today are they any good i am having a hard time spending $20000 on a tractor with 8000 hours and is 25 years old so i looked at new ones and used ones also looked at a kubota it was pretty nice but are the 6101 deeres any good anyone heard i need it for running a swather and the baler and sometimes pulling a 14 foot disk but those days are about over i hope

Sorry, but are you sure that was the tractor model number? there was an engine that was 6101.. (6 cylinder 10.1L) If it was a European tractor model number.. they can be hard to find parts for..

That old wives tale about difficultly finding parts in the US equipment. Is pure and total organic male bovine garden fertilizer.

The European comment was towards those older Deere tractors that are being shippped over from Europe/Asia.. that were built in Germany.. they can be difficult to find parts for, because the model numbers don't usually show up in US parts books..

I'm still a little confused at which model you are looking at.. The model numbering system for Deere Tractors is changing.. the first number gives you the family of tractors.. 6.. the next three numbers gives you the HP... 100, 115.. the letter is like of like an option code.. but there is really more to it that just options.. but the higher the letter, the more features the machine will have...

If you are looking at a 6100D.. its an OK tractor I would stick with the power reverser transmission.. (this gives you a wet trans clutch, and you don't have to use the pedal from neutral to forward to reverse) The cab is really basic.. the 6100D is a non TierIII engine, with a mechanical pump.. the 6115D's and up have High pressure common rail engines.. all are the 4.5L 4 cylinders. The hydraulic systems is open center.. and basic.. To me the only down fall of the 6D tractors, other than they are very basic is the PTO clutch, it is a dry clutch.. and is not your standard plate/disk/pad type clutch.. but if you are not going to be lot of on and off with the PTO.. the rest of the tractor will be fine.. (If they would have put a wet PTO clutch in it, it would have been a road side mowing machine..)

If you are in that HP range.. also look at the 5105E Limited.. but if you are going to be doing any heavy pulling, stick with the 6's.. or even a 5M.. (I joke that the M stands for More..) but it really does have more options.. and it will have a wet PTO and traction clutch.. and its got some nice sized final drives...

Really depends on what you are looking for... how much time you are going to spend in the tractor, usage of the tractor.. and how much you want to spend..

Good Luck,
