1948 JD A Exhaust parts.

I'll be needing a manifold and the exhaust pipe that gose to the muffler for my A before I can see if it will run when I get that far. I saw one at the local steam/gas tractor show. The manifold was much more square looking then mine and the flange was clocked wrong to how mine is on my manifold. The one for sale was clocked more horazontally where mine is sorta verticle. I'm pretty sure these parts go to a much later model deere.

What I'm wondering is where I can get a good quality reproduction manifold and exhaust pipe. I'm trying to do this tractor right, and don't want to put cheap parts into it. I've seen new exhaust pipes on ebay but I'm unsure about the quality. I think I'll probably get a used manifold from ebay or possibly the local guy that sells used JD parts at the next Show.

Thanks for your help

Hello I get all exhaust pipe made up for A and B at a muffler house shop in town it is lot cheaper then the one that you get form the j.d dealer thay just as good

(quoted from post at 13:52:38 09/14/09) You didn’t say if it was a gas only tractor or an All fuel model, the manifolds are different.

I believe its a gas only, only has one tank

There are plenty of good vintage JD gas manifolds (A3386R) out there for half or 3/4 what you will pay for the aftermarket stuff. The real ones have the part # cast into the top and they have stood the test of time. Who knows who cast the new ones or out of what metal and when it will crack. One of the few instances where original is cheaper AND better. They do have one other more rare late A manifold called "anti-frosting" which is more squared off runners. The exhaust runner from #1 runs under the intake runner to warm it. Little more rare but still on e-bay for less than the re-pro,s.
