I have a 1973 JD 2020 that will not continue to run. It will start up and run for several minutes and then dies, It will throttle up while it is running and I have pressure from the fuel pump and thru the filter to the injector pump. Not sure what to check on the pump or if there is something else I should be looking at. If you let it sit and come back it will fire right up and run again for several minutes[/list]

The fuel return check valve is plugged, remove the return line at the injector pump, then remove the fitting from the pump, file the bottom of the fitting to remove the little washer, spring and ball, blow the fitting and line clean re-install "without" the spring assembly , it should run fine for a good while,, you will need to get the injector pump serviced in a few months to a year under normal working conditions.

Typical sign of plugged fuel return line or fitting in inj pump. Fitting has a small glass ball to keep enough fuel pressure in inj pump for lubrication. Clean out around glass ball or run it without fitting long enough to decide if that's the problem. If that corrects problem the inj pump will need an overhaul to totally repair problem.
