4010 open or closed center?

I am having trouble with hydraulic oil cavitation when using my wood splitter on my 4010 diesel. I was told that I probably have the wrong type valve on my splitter. Which type do I need...open or closed center?

"Closed center", If you have an 'open' center valve on the splitter it will cause the pump to cavitate.

As tims stated most off the lot hydraulic equipment is equipped with open center valves.
Depending on the size of the ram, speed gallons per minute etc. The splitter and tractor may work together faster and better at lower engine rpms. If the oil returning the splitter is routed direct to the tractor via a ported filter cover. Rather than through the scv.
The scv's are suited more for raising cultivators at the end of the field. Rather than continuous use with high volumes of oil with splitters, loaders, backhoes and equipment with hydraulic motors.

Depending on what brand of valve you have, it's quite possible you can just change a plug or end cap to change from open to closed center.......or vice versa.
