1520 hydraulic pump seal

Big Elk

New User
yeasterday on our 1520 the drive shaft seal on the hydro pump was leaking so I removed pump to replace and found that the seal was not in place. I replaced with a new one and reinstalled the pump. In less then an hour of use the seal is leaking again (the shaft was in perfect shape) am almost positive the seal is pushed out again. What would be causing the seal to be push fron its seat. Thanks for any help.

The 'outer' seal should have a snap ring holding it in place,,but the seal that you need is the "inner" or high pressure seal, to install it the pump needs to be disassembled and the shaft removed, the outer seal is secondary, it holds the natural leakage from the inner seal and allows the seal drain line to send the trapped leakage back to the transmission case .

I figured as much is there somewhere I can find schematics for this pump and is there anything I need to know before taking it apart.

John Deere parts .com and yes there can be some "surprises" if you have never been into one yet,but I'm sure that we can 'talk' you through it..

First of all, you need an 8 compartment tray or 8 numbered containers to keep all the pistons in order so they get put back in the same bores.
