51 A clyinder nuts

Been looking at the nuts that hold the cylinder to the main case and got wondering how everyone
torques them. I can't get any of my sockets
(1 1/16)to fit in the wells around the nuts. Is there a special socket to do this?

Also how is the little shaft for the PTO flipper
shield held in place? I had to grind off a little
spot of weld.Is this original? Hard to tell from the parts book I have.

Thanks

Re; cyl mounting nuts. They do make a box end deal that fits on a ratchet. When I did the same job on my '60, I used a box end spanner and a
'cheater' pipe...they are tight.

My frame is off also. I was refering to the cutouts in the block around the bolts. I was thinking off taking a socket and shorten it.
Looks like I might be able to make that work.
Also liked the idea of the box end attachment.
If it is short enough it should not affect the torque reading.

Thanks all for replying

I think that spot of weld was original to hold that flipper shaft.

I always used a comination wrench with another one slipped over the open end for a cheater. Just tighten them up good, you get a "feel" for them.

I use a "torque adapter". You can buy them from Sanp-On and the like. I made this one from a box-end wrench and a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter that had the 1/2" stud broken off.

Like Mike said , the spot weld on flipper shaft was original. I just used a dab of JB weld to do the re-install. Looks like weld and won't burn the paint.

Thanks all for the answers. Have done the pipe on the wrench thing many times, but prefer to torque critical fasteners. I like the tool that FIT shows,I think I'll make one.
