3010 Brake Valve

Hello,

I have a 3010 RC early s/n 1010. The brake valve must have had moister in it an froze, cracking the housing along the bottom. There was a weld along this crack but it still leaks.

I found a valve off a 3020, the casting is slightly different in that the ports that go to the brakes are bigger and come straight off the back, instead of coming outta of the valve at an angle.

I figured it wouldn't be a problem just smaller lines. So I drilled the plugs and threaded in the smaller fittings into the outlet ports.

Now when I start the tractor I can't budge the pedals.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Main difference is the 20 series had an equalizer valve in it. Dumb question---could you operate the pedals before you started the tractor ?

Yes the pedals move, not as freely as they did with the old valve, but I can feel the pistons going down in the valve.

I just checked SM-2039 that covers the early 4020 and the 4010. It makes no discrimination between the models except on the piston diameter. And the 4010 before 2T20100 didn't have the equalizer valve.

Several lines in and out have check valves parts of the fitting.

But I suspect you mixed up pressure and brake line.

I don't know that the late 3020 valve is the same. Much of its hydraulics were changed and I don't have that different shop manual.

Gerald,

Thanks for the reply.

I wish it was as simple as a crossed line. But I have the pressure line connected to the center port and the lt. and rt. lines hooked up to the outter 2 ports. The return line is hooked up to the port forward of the pedals.

If it should work with the way I have it installed with the ports drilled though the plugs, I suspect I'll have to pull it apart and make sure all the check balls are in there correctly.

Thanks,
Mike
