options for tires.

Looks like I can put AG tires on it. However, JD dealer says can only order all 4 rims and tires and they are $1600+. Too much for me.

Industrial tires are NOT compatible with mid mount mower per JD.

Oh - just go trade it off and get a brand new 3000 series with a hydro tranny and the new style drive on auto-connect deck.
There problem solved ! see how easy that was. I sure am good at spending other peoples money ! LOL

I hear ya....but, I don't like hydro trannies on the JD's. Why? Cause I like old fashioned gear drives and with hydros...the individual brakes are on the wrong side. Hard to get used too and switching between all my tractors gets confusing. Could be because I'm getting old or maybe that I drink too much when I'm on them and can't keep it straight. Lastly, I really like foot throttles and most (if not all) the hydro ones don't have foot throttles.

Sounds like you're working around a design problem, why not have the rear mounted finish mower as used on all regular tractors. Only the belly mowers were designed for the compact mowing tractors or compact utilities of which the 790 is not in the family. Personally never liked belly mowers as they tie the usage of the tractor around them....but just a preference...

John Deere and the larger New Hollands are the only manufactures I have found that put the brake pedals on hydro models where you can actually use them. I have not seen anyone yet with 2 right feet. 1 to push the hydro and the other to push a turning brake for tight quarters.
So there is actually a good reason to put them there. You rarely need them though. Only for holding on a steep hill and for tight turns.
Hydro's a foot throttle isn't much good as you really need to keep the rpms up for to keep the pressure up to operate the hydro properly.
For mowing and loader work once you have ran a hydro you really don't want to ever go back to gear drive.

If you would switch colors then some other brands have a clutch on the left and brakes on the right along with the hydro pedal.
Another nice option was/is Deere's power-reverser. A gear drive that you can reverse on the go with the flip of a lever. I think Kubota calls it glide shift.

All this new stuff spoils me ! I don't have any now but am still dreaming.

Had a rear mount and found that a belly mower gives a better/smoother cut. I like 'em better. Looks much more professional. And, I don't have to worry with my girlfriend or me swinging it into the house or a tree.

Last week I found a set of JD 790 turf tires and rims, fronts & rears, semi-new condition on the web for $1000.00, maybe not a bad price. Sorry forget where, will try to find if you like..
