I asked question a few days ago @ didnot get the answer I wanted. I will try to explain problem more clearly. Clutch was noisey. Dissambled @ found pulley was rubbing on dust shield @ pulley gear was rubbing on main bearing housing. Clutch is about 1/8 inch over at end of crankshaft. Checked on first reduction gear @ pulley gear mesh & pulley gear is 1/4 inch too far in towards main bearing . If I push crankshaft towards right side gears line up & pulley does not rub on dust shield But now endplay is not right. Is something worn on crankshaft? what am I missing? Al

Sounds to me like you need a new clutch driver and or/the splines on your crankshaft may be damaged. Had the same situation on my 51 B. New clutch driver fixed me up.

Take a really good look at your crankshaft splines.

I'm gonna have to agree with Kurt here. Either the crank is worn or the clutch driver is worn. A new clutch driver would make a snugger fit. Ultimately keeping the pulley farther away from your dust shield. They also make an undersized clutch driver for particulary bad splines. On our 51 A a fellow tried to fix the problem by putting a soada can over the crank, molding it to it, and then slathering the entire thing with JB weld. This was a temporary fix which we found later.

Well I think this was you ? this reply was for. and you had a homework assignment we still need an answer to.

The fylwheel controls the crankshaft endplay and MUST be set to .005"-.010" of end play.
A really good chance that the clutch driver disk that is splined to the crank has worn splines and is going back on too far. If ideal it will be out from end of crank about 1/4" if bad it will be flush or even back farther.
