1020 wheel locking

Trying to figure out why [b:effbb16a71]1020[/b:effbb16a71] wheel starts to lock up after warm up and minimal use/driving, while other is spinning, only will turn when manual differntial lock is set, actually bogs the engine in higher gears, also in forward and reverse. Happened a year ago but my dad had kicked the PTO lever slightly out of off position. Reset to off position and never happened again. Until recently two different times, while moving snow around.
Any help?
Thanks!

Probably got a brake failure, pull the trans filter bowel, see if there are any filings, some times when the brakes come apart they put stuff into the planatary, boging it up to were the gears won't turn, locking that side up, when you lock the diff. it 'forces' it to turn, it needs looked at right away..

Park and repair it. The problem is only going to get more expen$ive while continuing to drive around grinding components to pieces.

Sounds like you've got a planetary drive coming apart. Those drives, on occasion, lose the triangle-shaped lock tab for the center bolt. It simply falls off. Once it does, the planetary will lock up and self-destruct. Jack up each side and find out which one is binding. Then fix. This was very common on 440 log skidder, a bit less common on 1020 and 300 wheel tractors.

Thanks guys! I was afraid of that, fortunately we haven't been driving it around! I'll check the sediment bowl/filter first and take it from there! Appreciate the help, Best luck for New Year!
God Bless America!!
