5020 started at 20 deg!

I had to feed yest as I had Dr. appt today and expected to have to use a LP tractor and hay buggy. but I thought I would try the 5020 after a 10 degree night and temp no higher than 20 deg. at 10 am. NO ETHER It rolled for about 20 seconds on the starter and kept rolling on its own and within 15 more seconds it was running rough but true and a few seconds later it was purring it's normal strong growl. Now this convinces me the motor is pretty sound and I have a pretty reliable old horse. At least I didn't have to fool with the old buggy deal.

Also thanks to those who gave me advice on the three point fix in the summer. It was a PIA getting that cable in because of a hiniker cab on it and when I tilted the cab back then forward again I broke the brake pedal setting it back down but i welded it back with Perfalloy rod to my satisfaction. (straight). bone yard wanted 45 dollar for a used one. I figure if it breaks again ever, I will reinforce it with a piece of a horseshoe but this fall tillage it held fine.

I have a 1965 model 3020 diesel that I started on the coldest morning this year which was 20 degrees and it kicked off in 3 seconds and ran good. Its also the only one I have so I hope it keeps it up. Is that good for a tractor that age.

I have found that these old tractors, and the newer ones for that matter have there own "personalites" some start great,,some don't,the normal causes like timeing, engine wear, starter, battery and cables all play a part in the whole picture,,It sure makes the morning go better when they fire right up...

Dear Mr. railhead,
Consider buying a 1500 watt block heater. They don't cost very much and it is so much easier on the tractor. It will start as easily as on a summers day.

Must be a 69 or newer.
Here's a link to coolant and oil heaters.

serial 030298 R....I think I determined it is a 71. thanks for links to heaters....i will look into them and price will be biggest factor. I am very excited thus far about this tractor because...i have so little in it and I have found NOTHING thus far that has disappointed me. It is a hoss.

I will look at the link b&d gave me below...thanks for advice.

p.s. call me Dear if you wish but please don't call me Mr.!!
