i have a 51 a that i think the splines on the flywheel are shot (cant keep it from sliding put new bolts in flywheel no help flywheel has alot of slop in it when on the crank with bolts loose i remember having the flywheel off my b and you pretty much had to beat it back on not the case with my a) i cant afford a taper lock was wondering if the flywheel off a 630 will fit? and how much different in weight there would be? i know where one is being parted out i understand the ring gears are different but i can change that if the diameter is the same

Hi i have a couple of late a flywheels knot bad on price but freight is a killer i am in easter SD will sell right if you can come and get one Kent

Personally, I’d have a very tough time justifying taper-loc for a dirt-common "A" tractor! Head out to a salvage yard and fetch the crankshaft and its mating flywheel & clutch driver -- then rebuild your engine around those elements.

I have no idea where you are situated, but to begin a search of your immediate area for tractor bone yard, start off with the URL cited below. This one will list businesses in the state of Iowa – see “Ia” in the address. Note this is the state’s postal code, the first letter in upper-case, the second in lower-case. You can arrive at a similar listing for your state by substituting your state’s two-letter postal code in this same format. This is a powerful tool, and so I encourage you to make it a part of your favorites under “tractors”. (PatB)

just curious. is the fly wheel the only damaged part at times like this or is the crank worn some too? if so, then replacing the flywheel alone want help. how do you check to see if the crank is bad. sight alone or what?

Over 40 years ago I helped a guy put an A back together that was disassembled with out any thing being marked it had a replacement flywheel probably the same as a 60. The line up marks were different and we guessed wrong shook real bad.

i cant come to sd thats why im asking about the 630 flywheel i can walk to where it sits i already replaced the crank because somebody run the clutch driver loose prolly flywheel too also the oil line got knocked off going to the right hand main bearing and scored the rods pretty good to another reason i changed the crank

Loctite makes a product for taking up slack in bearings on a worn shaft. Red I believe. Guarantee it will take up the slack. Bernie Steffen
