Hello,

Thank you for important info in regards to post titled: DLTX 34 only runs with choke 1/2 open. I set the idle needle (1 to 1 1/4) and load needle (3/4 to 1) as mention in "discussion". Tractor failed to start, Pretty soon I'm going to order the drill bits from roberts carburetor to drill out passages in the carb..This may be a dumb question but from what you know, When I attempt to do this (drill out carb), will I have to also re thread (tap) new threads in the wholes I drill out. (Will the recomended drill bits sizes require this?) . I'm going to order drillbit sizes 40 and 53 for dltx 34 carb.

Thanks for your help,

Also, I still haven't taken out the throttle nozzle or bushings, because I don't want to run the chance of breaking something, I'm trying to do the "easier" and safer things first I guess.

Tackling the fuel nozzle and checking the throttle shaft bushings for wear isn't a big deal unless you go about it wrong. If I were you and if I knew there were books and tapes on the market to guide me in doing my carb -- I'd be inclined to buy those -- could prevent one from making a costly error. Besides, having some mastery makes the job more fun! (PatB)

You don't have to re-tap any threads. But I highly recommend purchasing the carburator repair video from Robert's when you order the drill bits. I did, and all my carbs now work perfectly. The video contains lots of helpful hints to prevent you from breaking something.

You have to remove all the brass plugs before you use the drills to clean the orifices. Heat helps to loosen these screws. Also do not use a power drill on these bits, only hand held vice ect. Ron Mn.

go 1 3/4 or more on the idle and 1 turn on the load for a starting point.
Before you tear the carb. apart go to Pats H site and follow his no wrench test for plugged carb. passages. this will help you figure out which area to concentrate on the idle or load side.

TJC,
How were you able to start the tractor with the carb mis adjusted ? I would think (my always my strong suit) that it should have started this way unless the plugs got flooded. If it ran before with the choke on, it should have run this way, then if you still had to choke it you would know that you have to get deeper into cleaning the carb.

Seems wierd, but the tractor did start and run with the choke 1/2 open and idle and load both turned !/2 turn. Maybe it did get flooded like you said, i'll try again, Thanks alot for the information and yor help.
