woods 214 batwing leaky gearboxes

I'm looking at a Woods 214 14' batwing mower. All 3 gearboxes apparently are very leaky. I was told that the gearboxes had been removed and had new seals installed, yet it still leaked terribly.

Are these Woods 214 mowers a bad design and are they prone to leaks? Replacement gearboxes are insanely pricey.

May need bearings replaced if theres movement in the shaft.
May need shaft built up if worn away from the seals.

I have a 214. rebuilt the outside gearboxes, and teh seals lasted until some barbed wire met the one
side. I have been using cornhead grease in it, like the others have suggested. No problems yet, several
years.

Is this model worse than other models? After the barbed wire, did the cornhead grease take care of the leak?
Thanks for the info.
