3-Point Sprayer

Im looking for advice for a boom sprayer for my Ford 8N. Ive looked into the FIMCO brand of sprayers but they seem to get so-so reviews due to the tanks cracking. Does anyone have a DIY setup that works well? Im trying to avoid paying $600 for something that wont last as long as it should. (I feel like Ive said that a lot lately.) Ive tinkered with the idea of using a carry-all and pallet. Then buying my own tank/boom/pump. Appreciate the advice! Nebraska Zach

Depending on how large of area you have. A 25 gallon electric sprayer would work fine. I use one from back of gator . Have a 5 nozzle (100 inches) boom for it. Also have a 55 gallon with roller pump and 3 pt hitch. Can boom spray 6 36 inch rows or flip a couple valves and use boomless nozzle and cover 60 ft. Also have a port for garden hose to spot spray with

I should have clarified, Im spraying a 100 yard driveway and occasionally a 0.25 acre former cornfield that we are converting to grass.

In the 'old days',guys would put a 55 gal drum on a carryall platform. Then build a boom set up on that.If the booms are not too wide you can use a 12 volt Flowmaster pump.

I have a 55 gallon sprayer from Nothern Tools that mounts on the three point hitch. It sprays about a 14 foot swath. On the gravel drives I just lower it to avoid spraying the yard. I wired it to the battery with an inline fuse. Also mounted a rocker switch on the dash panel to turn it on or off.

If you are lucky enough to have a ATV, a 25 gallon tank on the back with 3 spray nozzles on a short boom is about as easy as it gets. I have one and can pull it off/put it on in about 5 minutes. Covers about a 20 ft swath. Best to avoid drift if you spray when no wind. But like some others, the first mounted sprayer I had was a 55 gallon barrel on a home made carrier mounted on the back of my IHC M, a roller pump and a front mount folding boom that covered about a 20 foot swath. This was back in the mid-1960's. Think I gave $5 for the boom at a farm auction. It was quite a pain because it was all steel plumbing and rust plugged nozzles was always a problem.

I have a 15 year old Fimco 25 gallon sprayer with a hand nozzle and a 12 ft folding boom. I use it multiple times every year, everything from fence rows to 1 acre paddocks. I have replaced a few parts over the years, but it is simple and has been reliable. I mounted mine on a pallet which I slide onto a 3 pt carry all. I sure would not go to all the effort to build one when these work so well right off the shelf.

A 15 gallon box store 12v sprayer is all you need for that. A 3 pt sprayer would be way beyond overkill. You could even spray it all with hand sprayer and have a cold drink before you got a 3 pt sprayer hooked up and filled.

Just get a 10 gallon sprayer with a electric pump abd set it on a coaster wagon with a battery and pull where you walk abd just hold the triger. That much area you don't want to mix bore spray than you use at a time and 10 gallon might just be enough, if not just possibly fill part way next time. First sprayer was a 55 gal drun mounted on the 3 point of a 2N ford with a gear pump. Later had a hunderd gal JD trailer sprayer then a trailer wit 200 gal tank But used it only with spray bar on disk or field cultivator for premercence sprays. Couple of years the jovky I worked with om machinery told be sprayers were just about being given away as all spraying was being done by commercial applicaters. And what you are wanting to spray to buy the spray you might have to get the licence to buy it. That is why I quit doing any spraying 15 years ago.

I brought a used 55 gallon Fimco probably close to 20 years ago at a landscape auction. I redid the boom to meet my needs and probably run 30 tankful's of about everything under the sun through it every year. The tank finally cracked a couple years ago but I didn't figure it owed me anything especially since its kept outside all summer long in the hot sun. It wasn't a big deal to order a new tank from TSC and replace the bad one. Other than the Fimco there's not allot of options out there unless you want to spend allot more on one. Although the newer Fimcos are built a little cheaper than the older models were.

I have a carryall, put a wood floor with sideboards on it for the back of my 8n.
Carry a 15 gallon spot sprayer in it to do my driveway.
My 8n has been converted to 12v. So ran a fused 12ga wire to behind the seat with a 12ga 2 pole flat connector on the end.
Other side of the connector to the sprayer pump.
Makes it easy to unhook when I want to use the carryall for other things.

Built a 55 gallon sprayer a year ago.

Here are a couple of pictures I found that I used to make new booms for my pull type sprayer. It was totally home made. It looks like an easy project. I also have more pictures of how the boom hinges and such were made if you want to make it.

I built that, and still use it. It's held up well, hard to believe it's 11 years old.

I have had a Fimco 3 point mounted sprayer system for over 20 years and used it every spring for spraying 60 acres of pasture. I converted it from boom to boomless. I still have it and plan to use it on our new place this Spring. i rebuilt the Hypro pump about three years ago and added a remote control valve a few years ago and other then replacing some hoses amd welding on the old boom,I have had no problems.
