Radial soybean meters

I own a older 7000 john deere planter and
have always used the JD soybean cups for
beans.Been told to use soybean meters. What
are the advances of using the JD radial
meters compared to shoup or after market
meters? There is a large price diffence
when buying new.

I have JD meters. Having said that I would have confidence in using Precision Plant or Kinze. Just specify when ordering they are for a 7000 and not a 7200 or 1750.

I have been using a set of kinze meters from Shoup since they offered them about 10 years ago , not 1 problem out of them . Better the the control spill from the JD bean cups of years ago.

The radials are so much better at seed spacing than the cups. I have a set for my 7000. Paid $50 each for them. Saved enough on seed the first year to pay for them. Tom

Any of the 3 brands are good from what I hear. Used for $50-80 a set can find them out there pretty easy in spring.

Just much better seeding rate, control, can lower the seed rate a little bit and still get a consistent stand across all acres.

The cups just spill out a volume of seed, planting rate changes so much by the seed size and planting speed.

The meters are just more steady uniform.

I picked up used Kinze. Good setup. Probably good to buy cheap as long as the framework is in good shape, and just replace the brushes right away, be like new.

Thanks for all of the replys. Will be looking for some good used bean meters or buy new from shoup come spring.
