There were so many different makes of those things you might never know unless you find somebody who has one just like it who knows what they have. Every little foundry in the country made one it seems like. I've got a Moore that was made in a factory along the river just 10 miles from me. There are a LOT of those around here. That Collin name might just be the name of that one. Have you searched the web for Collin plows?

I have a little. Just got home and cleaned up name. I also got a #11 Vulcan walking plow that like know any info on and what color it was new?

I have a walking plow with Sparta, IL. on one of the castings. It was made by the Sparta plow works, Sparta, IL.

Somebody else would have to tell you that. I've got several old plows,Oliver,Chattanooga,Syracuse, etc. Unless somebody has painted them odd colors for decoration to start with,I just leave them in their natural rust color and put them inside. The few that I have painted,I just painted them black. I think for the most part, black and red were about the extent of the paint on any of them. I saw a super nice all original slat bottom Chattanooga for sale at an Amish Flea Market in Kentucky two years ago, that one was all red, even the handles. Stenciling on the handles was yellow if I remember right. Guess if I was going to paint a Vulcan,I'd go with black. Maybe paint the handles red or just stain them, but that's just me.

there was a Collins one row cultivator. Someone said something about a Vulcan plow If I remember a Vulcan, Rose Clipper and a Blount (selling?) were all from the same company at varois times. Perhaps made at Evansville, Indiana

I think you're right about that. I did a web search and found the site below, along with another one that showed a Vulcan hillside that's still being produced by the Amish. No color pictures though.
I knew there were 2 chilled plow works in South Bend,Oliver and South Bend Chilled Plow. It says on that link that Vulcan bought South Bend Chilled Plow around 1900.
Vulcan

Yes pretty sure that's were they were made. But haven't had any luck find color pics. We go to lot plow days and things like get the Bradly and the Collins looking nice. Plan on useing them two

The Collins plow Co of Quincy, Ill. made several types of plows also Eli Hay Presses and related farm implements.

William H. Collins started making plows in Quincy, IL in 1845, he died in 1910 but the company continued into the 1940s. I got much of the company history from the Quincy Public library, a man named Carl Landrum had done research and they have the files. I do not know the colors used.

Hello Jobett333, I currently own 2 Finley. R. Crothers Sparta Plows from Sparta, Illinois and have obtained as much info as possible about Mr. Crothers as possible but would like to know more and also try to get a photo of him if possible. I am not able to find a digital photo anywhere online of him. Thank you !

(quoted from post at 11:33:20 01/10/17) My great grandfather owned and ran Sparta Plow Works. I can send you a copy of a photo if you like. Joan.

Can you please send any information/photos about F.R. Crothers? My father in law has recently refurbished 2 hand plows & would like to know more of the history.

Twilms, Welcome to the Forums.

While Jobett333 may be following along and not posting or may be using a different handle for some reason, it looks like that was her first and only post made close to 6 years ago.

You would help yourself by starting your own post and fully describe your needs. This site uses two different views. People using Modern view will see your post and the original post you are tagged onto, so they see the "whole" story related to your post. People using the Classic view only see your post as "Re" to the original post, none of that original post since Classic does not bring old posts to the top like Modern does; they stay in the list where they were posted in time where you post shows as current. People can swap over to Modern to see the original post, but likely many will not bother to do that.
