I am rehabbing this unit and I have never seen rock guards/ledgers like this. Anyone know anything about them? PO said the bar kept clogging up with grass...Seems like this set up would be the cause of this although interesting

"Cut Free" guards, also called "stub" guards. Don't think many had great luck with them on sickle bars. They worked better on swathers and haybines from past discussions.
 
Interesting. It seems like it would be great at cutting but hard to get the 2 blades to "touch" for cutting and as they wear they would have to be adjusted. The bar has more of those than regular rock guards but I can't find them anyway. I will probably replace them with traditional.
 
Those are worn out. Do yourself a favor, replace all guards and
put all new sections in the sickle.
 
Don't skimp on cost and try to get by using some old guards along with some new guards. They are not all made the same shape-tilt of guard so you might have problems there with cutting. If any old guards still look very good hang onto then as if you loose or break one of the new guards You might be able to use that and finnish your mowing job, I think a Ford takes a different guard than a Deere and be a lot harder to get one to match than a more popular mower and I don't ever rember seeing a Ford mower around Deere being most popular then McCormick , New Idea then the other's down the line. New Idea was not the best but being made locally were probably cheaper to purchase due to almost no shipping as dealer or farmer could go to factory to pickup.
