New Holland 350 mixer grinder unloading auger

Hey, I ve recently acquired a NH 350 mixer grinder that has been sitting out in the weather. Looked it over best I could in the weeds. I spun everything by hand and nothing seemed sized till I got it home and found that the unloading auger was out of gear and slide collar was seized. Got it moving freely after lots of PB Blaster and beating to find that the lower bearing/bushing was seized and sheet metal started crumbling from being rusted out. So I took remaining bolts loose and removed auger shaft. I ve got bushing freed up, new sheet metal fabricated and tried to reassemble but I don t have enough clearance to install key in key way and slide shaft into drive gear. I m hoping someone can give me some pointers. Only way I can see getting enough clearance is to remove the drive shaft for the pivoting unloading auger. Thanks

Is this the auger shaft in the tube the feed goes out or the short vertical shaft or are we talking about only the shaft that runs from the gear box under the tank to the corner of the frame? If just the flat shaft going to the gear box. There is a coupling under there the shaft goes into. they are keyed to the stub coming out of the gear gox. Might be crud in the coupling holding it out some. If the shaft in the feed tube all the feed will need to be cleaned out so the screw is not held back by the feed then it should be long enough unless there is rust or dirt holding the tube away from the cast yoke that holds the end for the auger. We never bothered with the snap rings as the screw pushes it down to the gear when running. Give the tank a good looking over at the bottom for being rusted out. Ours is shot in the tank bottom. It is also for sale for parts if needed. Everything works except the main drive gearbox under the tank and the bottom of the tank is rotted out.

It is the short vertical auger that I m trying to get the gear back on. It empties the feed from the bottom of the tank then dumps it into the moveable unloading auger. I can get the gear on but not with the half moon key way installed. If I install the key way I can t raise the shaft high enough to start the gear onto the shaft and if I install the gear then try to install the key way there s not enough room to get it between the bearing, spacing collar, and the gear. Thanks

I would think it would be the same as a 354. On those, the top cap on that auger comes off so you can just slide it right up and
out. Can't you just have somebody pull it up then slide it down in while you guide it? There's a ring at the bottom too that holds
the bearing and has three bolts that hold it to the outer ring on the auger tube. If you take those nuts off, everything should
slide out the top so you can assemble everything right on the ground and install it as a unit.

those top bolts holding the bearing need to be held in orr they will fall out in the auger. Not fastened in. Then you should be able to get the key in with it tilted slightly the gear should start on the shaft then tap down in as it slips through the bearing on the bottom. If you need to the bottom gear can be slid back some on the shaft I believe. This would allow the top ddriven gear some room. They aer not fun to work on with the tight tolerance for room on them. Even more fun is that little short vertical shaft at the swivel.

I checked again last night and the gear is too big to fit through bearing hole to put it in as an assembly. After looking at everything that would have to come apart for the swivel driveshaft to get enough clearance I think I m going to make a second plate that bolts to the lower flange and cut out the center big enough for the gear to pass through then take the original bearing mounting plate and cut the outer edge down to inside dimensions of the tube drill 5 holes around the edge to match holes in the second plate. I ll tack weld the bolts in place in the bearing plate so I can slide it in as an assembly. Hope it works out as easy as it sounds but I m learning pretty quick this thing ain t mechanic friendly. Thanks and wish me luck.

Finally got time and weather to cooperate and was able to get grinder put back together today. Here are some pictures of what I rigged up if someone else ends up in this predicament. I slid the auger in with the bearing and gear assembled on the shaft slid the second plate that Im holding in picture at bottom of tube and slid auger the rest of the way in to mesh with drive gear tightened my 4 nuts to the bearing plate and welded the plate I was holding to the auger tube. Thanks for the help and hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. God bless
