Wore Out PTO?

Mowing some autumn olives the other day and after towards the end of the day got off the tractor and noticed the slip clutch was wobbly as it attaches to the PTO stub coming off the gearbox of the bush hog. So I parked it.

Today I pulled the slip clutch and put a known newer PTO shaft yoke on the gear box stub and it pretty much fit like a glove. I would have thought the stub would have some wear, but it did not. All of the wear and wobble comes from the female side of the slip clutch. This slip clutch works as it should, ie slips and is not frozen.

Question is - have you encountered a wallowed out PTO yoke on the female side? This slip clutch is a casting and I am thinking not as hard as the stub shaft from the bush hog which is probably hardened or some kind of high strength steel.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

' Agri supply had new shafts for less than you can probably get a new slip clutch for. And are right in your back yard there in The Carolina's.
