Good morning everyone,

I'm looking help with information regarding a really old Ingersoll Rand air compressor. I bought it recently and would like to find whatever manuals are around for it.

The ID plate on the front of the compressor is really hard to read, but I can tell it is an Ingersoll Rand Type 30, Model 64 and I THINK the piston dimensions are 6in & 3.5in x 5in. Serial number looks like 65902. Would 65 be the year it was made? It kinda looks older than that.

It is powered by a Wisconsin VF4 gas engine, and it runs great. It built up pressure to 125 before the dry rotted air hose blew off, and i'm in the process of mounting it on a trailer and replacing some of the piping, cleaning it up, so I can start using it on my sandblaster cabinet. I am quite certain the V4 engine is not original, and that's fine with me, I like old Wisconsin's too.

The tank looks really sturdy, but it has a lot of surface rust on it. I've already replaced the drain and valve and the mid stage relief valve and have an adjustable relief valve on the tank outlet so I can test it at various pressures and hopefully not blow anything up.

I've attached a few pictures of mine, and a couple blue ones I found on old auction sites. Unfortunately, the websites didn't have much data on them, but i found that maybe it could be called a Model 64D9? The cooling vanes on the cylinders seem to be rather unique.

Does anyone have one like this, and do you have any documentation for it, like manuals, etc? I'd love to buy a copy.

Ingersol Rand is usually good about support from my experience in this area. I would suggest calling the nearest service center to you and talk with them.

Not always, but in many cases new users have to have 5 or more posts on record before the site lets them post pictures (or links), due to site spam filters. Another option is to go down to the Site Comments Forum and ask YT Support for permission to post prior to that. You can try going down to the Test Forum and making several posts there to get your post count up, trying to attach your pictures to each post. That may work after you make several posts. Then make your post here again. It may not work immediately after you get past the 5 posts, if not, you might try logging out and back in at that point. There is a size limit as well, I think it is a total of 7mb per post (be it one picture or the total of several). Some pictures (often taken with phones) are too large and have to be reduced before they will post.

Thanks Jim,

I think your thought about the number posts is what it was. I tried several times to post with the pictures, and it kept saying I was doing something wrong but wouldn t say what!

The GOOD NEWS is that just Today, I got an email back from IT asking for a few more details. Turns out the serial is 30t65902 (it was really hard to see the 30T prestamped on the ID plate this evening).

I m getting it mounted on a trailer tomorrow and then im going to do a pressure test with new belts!

I bought a big Ingersoll Rand compressor( might be about the same model as yours) cheap because it ran out of oil and Rod bearings were shot. The Ingersoll Rand folks were real helpful with information and
sold me all the parts to repair it which added up quickly but still a deal for such a large machine. Next problem was I moved it to my farm and had trouble dealing with the 15 HP 3-phase motor. Bought another
15 HP motor to make a rotary Phase converter but could not power up a 15 HP motor. Ended up down sizing motor to 10 hp which still pumps a lot of air. I just kept plunging ahead with this project because I
knew if nothing else the compressor could be powered by a tractor with it constant speed unloading valve. Next I got a deal on a old portable Sullair construction site compressor (Gas engine rotary) planning
on sitting it up to sand blast and spent a bunch of money tuning that up.
What I discovered thru all this is that you don't need that much of a Air Compressor to run a sand blast cabinet. I had access to regular 3-5 hp shop compressors and they will keep up fine for home Sand
blasting Cabinets. I have used 3 different small compressors at different locations and all kept up and presently use a 1 HP with fairly good results. Now what to do with all this EXTRA equipment that added
up to a lot of money wasted and never really paned out?? Cleddy

WOW GOOD LUCK WITH THAT
. Just not sure we are on the same machine with yours being a gas Engine?? cleddy
