John Deere 15 Flail Chopper

Group,

Any tricks or tips to clean up the wobble on the wheels on one of these? I just bought one and it is in pretty good shape and have been using it but the wheels wobble so much. I looked at the parts diagram
on JD parts and looks like the bearing is an old cage style so probably will not get a lot of slop out of them.

Depends on where the wear is most pronounced. Bearing, sleeve, or shaft? The best thing to do would be just replace the whole assembly with a 4 bolt trailer hub assembly which would have modern tapered cone bearings. How good are you at using shop tools such as a cutoff saw, torch, grinder, and welder? It would not hurt to add some bracing to the trailer shaft. Check to see that your old wheel will bolt to a modern trailer axle assembly so you know total cost if the wheels will not fit.

If you go the different spindle. There are spindles for implement wheels available that will fit regular implement wheels. shoup has some and there are other places too. If I remeber right those came with a straight roller bearing on a shaft with a hub abd they need greased regularly to last over time. Not sure what was used for a seal at the ends. Could get a new bearing weld the shaft up and see what the hub looks like also. I think the left one behind the tractor sort of was a regular tapered roller bearing wheel.
