New Holland Needles

Anyone bought any from a dealer lately? We had to buy a pair for our 276 baler - bought from the dealer with Made in the USA. First we had to grind around the tip because they were just a slightly
different size than the originals - and no it wasn't due to wear. Then when we went to install and the bolts turned in horribly hard - after the custom fit work and the second install one of the bolts snapped
off. Since we were having some machine shop work done the needle went with the tractor head they turned the broken bolt out then cleaned up the threads - they said the threading was horrible and they cleaned
a lot up with their tap (not paint).

If we wanted almost right we would pay less than half price and buy some needles of EBAY made in China. Thankfully it was end of season and happened on the final 4 acres and we just put it in big round
bales. Something like that with 80 acres on the ground with rain coming would have made us very unpopular at the dealership.

(quoted from post at 16:56:21 10/13/22) New needles are metric threaded, So fit 570/575, On older units have to get new hardware.

Seems as though, for the cost of a new set of needles, they could put a little tag on them that say this, if it's true.

I'm not letting the dealers or manufacturers off the hook for this one. (again... IF this is true) They KNOW if the threads are different and they KNOW what the threads were historically. This should be marked clearly, or the new hardware should just come with them.

To leave something like that up to chance is inexcusable, regardless of where the needles come from.

One took the old bolt and the other just broke off after the second install. Both had to ground to lay the twine in the knotter where it should go. The machine shop that cleared the remains of the bolt out of the hole never said anything about it being metric. We gave up on using it on those last few acres and big baled it. The last needle has not been installed since it came back from the machine shop. I doubt one was SAE and the other was metric.
