Implement size

Just purchased a 4320 John Deere, live in mid-Michigan what size plow 5-16 or 6-16, and what size disc should should I be shopping for?

Depends on soil. Sandy soils plows put easier and disc's pull harder. So if your soil is sandy you could pull 6-16 plow but a 16-18' disc would be enough. Heavier ground 5 bottoms and 18-20' would go well. That's an old tractor so smaller will help make for less repairs.

Most guys in MI now are just chisel plowing except the guys on heavy clay like up around the Saginaw bay area for cornstalks and some others for their own reasons. So I would look at a chisel plow for now if hilly ground then I would consider other options like notill or possibly waiting till spring to work it. IF cornstalks you will need either a heavy disk or a chisel plow to loosen it up. A lot depends on the dirt. What part of Mid MI are you in. I'm in Shiawassee county. Equipment is high right now with probably no change for a few years. Shopping will be your friend for now.

115hp.

I pulled 4-16 with 85 hp, but it was slow going in tough years.

Then 4-20 with 145hp, that was a nice match in my tough soil.

Just got a 616 for my 210hp front wheel assist.

I've got an IH 986 that would be similar in power and weight to your 4320 and use it with an 18-ft Krause disc. This gives it a good load and I wouldn't want any more in our tight ground. You'll find that there aren't many options in disc sizes between about 15 ft and 18 ft, 15 typically being the widest rigid frame and 18 being the narrowest folding frame.

Ah, and disks.

You can pull a lighter old disk that is 18-20 feet in fall. Smaller blades, closer spacing.

It will give a good workout in spring tho when the ground is softer!

The heavier disks, 22 inch blades, Id think a 15 foot would be a heck of a load for you. Bigger spacing between blades, bigger blades.

Makes a lot more difference on soil types and condition with a disk, might be you could go bigger at times, could be these sizes are too big other times.
