Small round baler for my New Holland boomer 50

You should be able to run most 4x4 round balers. Don't mess with the so-called mini balers.

Functionally there is nothing wrong with these mini-balers, but the bales they make are no larger than a typical small square bale.

If you have more than a couple of acres to bale, they are just not practical. You will be stopping every few feet in heavy hay, and make hundreds of bales that will still need to be handled. You'll still need a wagon to load them.

You have a big enough tractor to run a small round baler like the Hesston 530. These make 4x4 soft core bales which aren't that heavy and your Boomer should be able to lift.

CaseIH 8420
Hesston 530

All the same baler and need 30 PTO HP, makes a close to 4x4 bale, 38x52 or something.

I would go with a older regular size square baler. Probably find a good one for under 2 grand which
is less than you'll pay for a mini baler. For what its worth, back in the sixties, we put up over
15,000 bales a year with tractors with less hp than your Boomer.

I have a JD 375 baling a 5x4 (5' wide) bale at 3000# cylinder pressure....heavy tightly packed bales. I run it on level ground with a
Branson 6530 at 57 PTO HP. It's a good match. With that said, I agree that a 4x4 ought to work just fine for you.
