The JD 55 series plows were all 3 bottom, no 2 bottom or 4 bottom, The 44 series were the 2 bottom version, Now there was a 3 bottom that was basicly a 2 bottom with a third beam added that I forget model number and I have never seen one of them. I did have both the 44 and 55 plows with the H in number for hydrolic lift. A if I rember correctly was the clutch lift version. I do still have the operators manualls around some place and the parts books printed off the Deere parts lookup site. The 55 plows were avaible as 12 inch, 14 inch or 16 inch bottoms. The 44 series came in 3 different frame sizes in small, medium or large and were adjustable for different bottom sizes.

Leroy, mostly you are right but, I refer you to parts catalog PC-206 for the 55B and 55H special 4 bottom plows. Not a common plow but they are out there.

Could they have been made in the end of the production run and not included in all the books? When Mine was built I don't thing there was a wheel tractor built mig enought to pull a 4 bottom plow. The D and G being only a 3 plow tractor. And being the biggest wheel tractor Deere built at that time or were they built for western states crauller tractors?

Yeah, the parts catalog I have is dated September 1951 so it may be that is about when they came along. I think just to make a cheaper alternative to a #66 plow, having lighter frame and axles.
