Please don't cringe......

Ford 532.......still with me? Awesome! Well with y'all's help I have fixed everything on farm so far
Now I'm stuck.
Simply put, can I remove the bill hook pinion shaft with knotters mounted on machine?
I've removed the spilt pin in the pinion gear. Tapped shaft end from rear with a brass punch. No movement, just taps!

If wondering why, I need to replace worn pivot bolts on the twine holders.

Thanks tons for any guidance

Probably just need a bigger hammer.Do you have a book? You're gonna need one to reassemble and get properly adjusted.Too complicated a process to explain here.

Definitely have book. Old original. That's what got me to this situation. Started at the beginning to make adjust and got to the twine holders and could not get them in tolerance. Started looking into why and found the worn pivot bolts. Book doesn't process for removing shaft like modern service manuals.
Now this brings up question. Besides the parts book and operators book is there another that I haven't came across?

I have plenty of hammers from 1/4 lb brass to 18# maul. I'll start at the bottom and work up. Weird angle in there and why I was asking if it's possible without removing the rack. But all honesty probably could have had it out and back in by now.

Will do buddy, got a little red and left it alone for the day went on to other chores. I'll go out there and oil it all good and return to it in the morning.
Thanks CapGuy

IF it is like a New Holland type knotter have you watched the NH explanation knotter video on YouTube? The knotter hold down bolts should be
a little loose..not tight. Take out the hold down bolt and roll the knotter up for better access. Yes you can change bill hooks with the
knotter mounted on the machine. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1apG2BRtLo

Not 100% sure, I remember a video by them, 70ish,early 80 that showed how the knotter functions.
After I go get animals up I'll come back and watch your linked vid
Thank ya

And Yes the hold down bolts where tight when I received the baler and I have not come across a torque value for them and have been putting them back pretty snug.

Though this could be an additional problem it's not what's causing me not to be able to adjust the holders accurately.

Side note. Bill hook pinion shaft is free to do its job, just ceased I believe at the gear/shaft not allowing me to drive it. Now it does come out towards the rear, ie billhook is still pinned to shaft. Correct? Pinion gear pin removed.

Lmao, so far great video @ about 2:30 tap tap wiggle wiggle presto it's out. Guess I need to get a little more aggressive with the shaft. I know it's ceased at the pinion gear. Just a little nervous being my 1st time.
I work on Jap engines all day everyday for 20+ yrs. So I'm not shy in the shop, just don't so much like beating on things :D ok back to video

I feel alot more confident now, thanks for that link plus got a bonus on the knife arm/whipper adjustment. I see my problem has been (knot) knowing the different models and manufacturer that inter(twine).

Ok I'll stop, happy now ,can't help it

Thanks for the push guys

The pivot bolt isn't as worn as I was hoping, but does have a good divet in one side so hope this helps. I'll get this side cleaned up and reassembled then move to the inner knotter assy.
Fingers crossed I can get my adjustment correct after this on the twine holder.

I was a little foggy last night. To answer your question better on the hold down bolts. In the attached pic @ the holder #32. The top bolt is tight. The lower bolt is a little loose.

Got both sides cleaned, lubed and reassembled.
I've went through the book again and do not see any mention of leaving a bolt loose.
Number 34 or 35 from above pic?

Just rewatched knotter video for any hints on that loose bolt. No mention of it nor could i see or find any movement in the assy during the video.
So this must be handled down info that I haven't been shown yet.
Any help is appreciated here. Think with y'all's help I bout got her whooped, till next problem :D
