Is this a good seed drill to reseed grass hay?

So Im new to all of this stuff, its going to be my second year making hay myself. When I got out last year I found the guy my parents rented to really rutted up the field bad, so I have a buddy of mine coming out with a good heavy field disc in spring. Figured I would reseed the field while Im at it.

Obviously since Im starting out, Im on a tight budget so Im looking at older equipment. This ad caught my eye on Facebook. Can anyone give me some information on this seed drill, and would it work okay for seeding hay?

Yes those are a good drill wish I still had my grandpas . I drill
grass and alfalfa seed through my John Deere drills thats 90
percent what I use them for

Probably would be more economical to rent a drill from
the local SWCD or have someone custom seed it than
trying to maintain an old drill just for seeding hay every
few years.

Those are scrap price here...150-200 bucks. Getting all the disc bearings turning after sitting for some time will be an expense, plus not
fun to work under. Like was said...hire it done and save time and headache.

They sell $150-500 here. Price is crazy. But, packers and the goofy transport arent normal here dont know what those add.

They are good drills for small grains and with the small seed box great for alfalfa, clover, turnips, and other small round seeds.

Grass seed has wings on it, and is difficult to run through a seeder. Some really good very expensive seeders have pickers that seed the winged seed well.

Small winged grass you can get to flow through the small seed box. Bigger winged seed you can mix with oats and seed through the big box. Here the nurse crop of the
oats is a good thing, but could be different.

So, its a really good drill. Planting grass seed is a little odd with the wings some seed has on it. It can and has been done on millions of acres with that model drill, but
is a bit of an art to do it.

If he is discing it, just broadcast spread the fertilizer and grass seed at the same time. It will grow just fine.

That drill will do all you need to and the packers will cover the
seed for decent seed to soil contact instead of a stupid end
wheel drill. 1500.00$ to much ? Have priced a drill lately sure
bubba can always find a better deal at an auction but around
here there are no auctions. I dont even use the small seed
box for grass or alfalfa seed I put it all through the big box lots
more capacity and no screwing around
