Gehl 454 hay rake questions

Hello-

Has anyone owned or operated a Gehl model 454 hay rake? This model is run by hydraulics, not ground driven. Is this model reliable? parts available for hydraulic motor? Would Farmall 300 or Farmall 450 hydraulics work to run the basket? Thanks

Probably not due to not enough capactiy. Think low volume systems.

overheating will be an issue due to lack of an oil cooler, if it does manage to run it.

Should be a common hydraulic
motor.Probalably cheaper to replace than
to be rebuild.It may not even be
rebuildable.However,they are not
terribly expencive.Your 300/450 won't
have enough hydraulic 'poop to run that
rake.Upgrade to an 06/56 series tractor
or add an external power pack.A
pump,reservoir,flow regulating
valve,etc.

Now that I think about it, at an auction in the now distant past I had run across a Super M where somebody had added all of that stuff, with the pump mounted to the belt pulley shaft.

Thanks for all the replies and info everyone! I think I am going to steer clear of this rake. Seems like an inefficient way to run the basket on a rake when could be using the ground to drive the basket like normal rakes.
