Any body ever try to use a IH section in there sickle,it almost fits,i had to grind a little off on edge, that was my finding! The mower does have nice pitman action, but the hyd cylinder is hid behind the assist spring, and does nothing the first 4 inchs of travel, ish!

Well, I have had no trouble finding new sickle sections, so don't know why anyone would mess with trying to use some that aren't right.
My helper spring broke, so I discarded it. I was able to do that since I use a 2 way cylinder on mine. I think the use of a 1 way cylinder required the use of the spring. The system is hydraulic force to cable, so the do nothing cylinder travel has to do with taking the slack out of yhe cable. There should be some slack when on the level, because the slack allows the bar to go further down such as trying to mow a road side ditch.

Ive had to modify sections and guards before sometime you Have to use what you have . For awhile you couldnt buy an owatonna guard but a new holland could be made to work

Well Red its like this, my friend, and neighbor got killed 17 months ago, and offered his family to take care of his ditchs, i had a IHC pull type swather for years with extra parts,i am mowing his ditch for nothing and got lots of IHC section's left over, they are so close to fitting, but i did find out New Holland offers bolts now instead of rivets,I guess the Engineers make it that way to aggreivate us farm boys! He had a two way cylinder on it!

If that is really a NH 456 mower someone has screwed with it big time, the cylinder should be out on the frame hooked to a cable to raise and lower the mower frame and cutter bar.2 way cylinder works just fine. Also NH 456 doesn't use a pitman drive its a belt drive system.Get an operators manual will clarify a lot of things for you.

Thats what it says on the serial number plate, it my neighbor/friends mower! I know its belt drive,it's a nice quiet drive, nice action to it! The cylinder is behind the helper spring, hidden from the operator !!!
