On my last bale of the year, my pick up jammed.

From what I can see, I believe, the small radius on the pickup cam is warn through.

Outside of age, would something else cause this?

I was thinking of welding in a patch, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

On my 276, I was running it with several cam rollers broken, which slowly destroyed the cam. I bought a new cam from Messicks about
$250. It was really a challenge to install (for an old guy with a bad back).

Simply Age can cover alot of things, so yes, the twine bars rotating a few million times could wear a hole. also, what condition were your twine bar cam bearing
in? If they were frozen or shot that would certainly accelerate the wear. If you do weld the patch in there I would replace the bearings.

I think from what I read elsewhere, pulling the pickup head is the best way to go. Then check everything while it is out.

What is the easiest way to pull the pick up head?
I guess I pull the right side wheel, undo the chain. Then one pivot point on each side? Or does the left side sprocket and such come off too?

Taking pickup off will not get cam track out. Take bows off that end, remove cam brgs and spacer , Remove bolts and rotate cam to where slot will let come over shaft.
