John Deere wagon running gear

Here's a question for the John Deere guys, I've acquired 2 old wagons from my late uncle farm, they both need some tires, however the one with the John Deere running gear has different size wheels front & back, back ones are 16, & the fronts are 15. Was this something that was common ? Have another John Deere wagon that I got from the farm, & that has 16 wheels all around, so that's why this other one kinda surprised me ! Thank goodness I didn't get all 16 tires ! Thanks for all & any responses, Alan

I had a David Bradley with 15 up front and 16 in the back, matching rim styles. Also bought a Little Giant gravity box at an auction that had been placed on a too-light unknown brand gear with spoked wheels that had 15 inch up front and 16 in the back. I kept the box and sold the gear.

Normally wagon gears came with the same size wheels all around them with 6 bolt hubs anything could have happened since they were new. We have all sizes on our wagons also. From smaller 15's to larger 16's.

The old JD gear I brought a few years back has both 15 inch and 16 inch tires on it with different style rims on it. I just figured it being as old as me somebody just swapped a couple of them out at one time or another.

Over the decades things get mismatched especially if you are in a hurry trying to beat the weather. A lot of JD gears sold around here and I don't recall one having different size wheels from the factory.

Normally the wheels were all the same.As one posted below alot farmers put smaller tires on front so baler matched the wagon
