Can anyone tell me why my new Holland 273 baler wont
release the knot after tying

Twine knife could be dull or the swiper arm doesn't rub the bill hook as tightly as it should

the knives are sharp but i'm not sure how close the wiper needs to be

Wiper needs to be so tight that it is hard to pull it over the bill hook by hand as in rub the bill hook. If you can get a piece of paper between the bill hook and the wiper it is not tight enough

thank you sir. i think that is where the problem lies. the wiper doesn't touch the bill hook

The wiper pushes the knot off the bill hook so what is likely to be going on is it slips over the top of the twine so the knot is not pushed off the bill hook

When you adjust the wiper arm it is best to bend it with a pipe wrench, rather than bashing it with a hammer.

Also, check the bill hook tension. If its too tight the knot wont come off either.
