Just says preco on the front. Is this an old back up alarm and how does it work? I see no wires anywhere but there's balls rattling around inside. I can see on (maybe 1" across) when it falls towards one of the slots.

I'm hoping it's OK to post it here because you folks always know about these things.

(quoted from post at 09:42:18 09/09/21) It bolts to the axle, usally the rear

Wow! I would not have guessed that! And people could hear it over the engine? Should those balls be rattling around then? Maybe it's still usable?

It needs to go on the correct side. Rolling forward the balls hit a stop. Rolling backward they hit the bell. I think it is actually arms which pivot out when they go over center.

Well I'll be darned! When I turn it one way I jyst get the clunk of the bells, the other way I get the ring of the bell. Neat! I was going to get rid of it but I don't think I will.

In the early eighties they were still used on dump trucks, now they are all electric.

I am shocked you could actually hear it over the engine! I mean it's a nice bell sound but wow...

Next up I have to post up some pto shafts I've found laying around our barn I'm cleaning out to see if anyone knows what they go to.

Real common on the asphalt haulers many years ago. It bolted on the axle flange of one of the rear axles. It was your last chance - better listen close because they didn't make much noise. I think they went on the left side of the truck. I remember two different guys who were hit and injured while they were setting paver string line, which was on the RIGHT side of the truck.
