Is it worth the money?

Some guy is selling this locally. He ask $1000 or best offer. Claims everything works fine and still have the original cylinders if I want to rebuild them. Is it really worth $1000? Also how can I test it if it's off the tractor? And what to look for?

In years gone by I have seen those sell for a grand. Since he said OBO, if I needed it, I might go $6-800 depending upon how desperate I was.
It also is greatly dependent upon the local market.

I was thinking $700 is what I will feel comfortable paying. Any idea how much it will cost me to rebuild the pump and hydraulic valve? He says it "ghosts down" so they just reversed the lines to cylinders to keep it up. Not sure what that means and what kind of damage it could cause.

If it ghosts down, I assume he means that the cylinders won't stay raised, the oil bleeds off. Normally that means that the cylinders need repacking, but if he
reversed the lines to solve the problems, it sounds more like the spool valve is leaking internally.
If I had that and was able to sell it for $500, I would think I really did good.

I have that same model on an 8N ford I have. The bucket on the one you show looks to be a replacement bucket since the one on mine is only about 3 foot wide and sits between the loader arms. As for how much it is worth is hard to say with out being able to see it at work

Buy an 8N with one on it, take the loader off and put on yours then sell the tractor you bought. You'll probably get more for the
bare 8N than you will have to pay for one with that white elephant on it.

300.oo max!

You'll soon get tired of climbing and exiting off the back of your tractor, trying to do regular maintenance through the monkey bars and the tripling of steering
effort.

Then theres that bed-frame angle-iron strap teniously holding the tilt retro-fitted cylinders to the loader arm reinforcement...

I appreciate guys all the responses. I never actually thought that I will have to get on the tractor from the back because of the loader being on the way.

Being a step through it is worth way more than a jungle jim, but way more than nothing is still not a lot.

Heres one for 100.oo less, that includes a non-running (with a NEW carburettor!) 8n with a Sherman combo transmission in the deal.

The Knoedler (sp.?) aftermarket seat adds that ultimate inconvenient touch to trying to get up into the operators position!
loader tractor

Having run one of those loaders on a Ford 801 working for my
uncle as a teenager thats what youd have to pay me to take
that loader.

Those Ford N tractors with loaders seemed to be a gateway tractor to more capable loader tractors. Over the years three neighbors with a lot of livestock bought one and within one year each was replaced by an MF 65, an IH 350U and a JD 2020, all with power steering, live hydraulics and step through loaders.

Be better than a shovel....but no way would I even bother, I'd invest in a proper (more modern) loader tractor.

Your $$$, if you have the tractor and $1000 gets you a loader that fits, your choice.

It's not like I need it now. There are some projects where it will come handy but if you guys think it's too much then I will pass. I seen the SSB attachment which is $2999 brand new and looks more compact that this dinosaur.

You're better off just buying a new hydraulic valve if you do decide on this loader. There's nothing special about the one on the loader. It's just a generic two spool open center valve.
