Roger, you referenced brass roller on knife arm. I pulled my knotter assembly up to replace mine and it looks like a job to replace the brass roller. Im missing something. what is the trick to replace it?
 
I replaced one this winter. Pete is right, it is held on by a allen head bolt. I don't remember if i had to remove the knife arm or not. It was not too bad of a job. Clean off the knotters and flip them up to work on them. Sharpen the knife while you're at it.
 
So if my mind remembers right there is a cotter pin that needs to be bent straight and pulled out so you can pull that arm out of knotter.. you need to take the single bolt and nut off where knotter is attached to top of bale chamber. THen rotate the knotter up while at the same time trying to get this arm out after you remove that cotterpin..you have to wiggle knotter alittle and youll see how that bushing rolls around the knotter and will come out.
MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL that back correctly THAT IT IS INSTALLED correctly so take note on how it comes out..NOtice how the bushing rolls around that knotter and where its at when knotter is bolted back to frame..

BY the way when you bolt that knotter back to frame (top of bale chamber) you do know you tighten that bolt/nut but not tight.. you leave that knotter so where that bolts to frame the knotter moves and wiggles.. BOLT/NUT Tight but not tight enough that knotter cant wiggle at that point.. by design and in the manual...
 
Everyone gave good advice. The only thing I would add is to cut a small piece of wood to hold the knife arm up while working on it. The hole in the open gear will allow replacement of the ball without complete removal of the knife arm. You still need to pull the top cotter pin to allow it to drop some.
Sharpening the knife is a good idea.
