Loader BUcket Needs A New Cutting Edge But...

Dunham-Lehr loader, mid-70's model on a DB885. The current cutting edge is a replacement and is shot. Thing is, between the bucket center and the left side of the bucket the bottom the current cutting edge has an upward bow of over a half inch.

Is it a fools errand to weld in a new cutting edge on a bent bucket bottom?

Once the existing cutting edge is removed is there a chance the bucket bottom might be agreeable to attempts at straightening?

Might be better off visiting one of the local skid-steer attachment mfg's near me for a new bucket.

before welding new edge to bucket ,clamp it tight all along with good clamps;; bucket may conform to new edge if the new edge is fairly rigid.

Just cut the old edge off then try to straighten the bucket
before you buy the new edge. If you dont like the results of
straightening you can always get the new bucket. Or if you
think youre going to have some rough work where you may
bend the bucket again keep the old one intact and buy a new
one for the good work. Tony

I used 2 cutting edges. Cut out the bent
part of my bucket and welded in one
cutting edge as the bottom of the bucket.
Then bolted the other edge to the welded
in edge. Straight bucket with correct
spacing for bolts.

We used old grader blades for the cutting edge replacement and welded in after cutting old out. We didn't have a bent bucket bottom though. With the bucket set under something heavy lift upward and heat will probably come back out straight. Heavy like another tractor rearend or a dozer blade back of a dozer or maybe under a ripper tooth on the dozer.

After beating with a sledge until my hands were numb I ran the bucket under the narrow end of one of those big road construction concrete barrier blocks. It's heavy enough the rear tires clear the ground if I attempt to pick up the whole thing. Anyway, with the block centered on hump and loaded on the leading edge of the bent portion of the bucket, I proceeded to beat the snot out of the edge on both sides of the block... nothin' doin, still bent. Makes one wonder how the thing got bent to begin with!

It's raining today so I'll make inquiries on both a bucket and cutting edge.

This loader has only a centered, single cylinder for dump/rollback. Beyond making mention that fact while shopping, is there a type of bucket construction to look for or, more importantly, avoid?
