Massy Ferguson 3 baler sheer pin

Ive got a massy Ferguson number three baler that I sheers the
Sheer pin on last week. I can not remove the sheer pin from the fly wheel. Ive tried drilling it out. Driving it
Out with a punch. Ive ground the head off and tried to drive it out the opposite way. Ive booked 2 drill bits and a punch in the sheer pin. What is the secret to removeing the sheer pin. As far as I can tell it should hammer out easily but its stuck fast.

Thanks

Before you ground the head off did you try to turn it?? Could well be rusted up tight and or bent

No secret, it should come right out. It pretty much has to be rusted in there or really bent. Not much else you can do but keep trying. Maybe soak in penetrating oil, or try some heat and a candle. But will probably come down to a big hammer and force.

Yea I tried turning it both ways I initially thought it was an all thread bolt but I just rounded the bolt head.

Thanks,

Any issue you can see trying to hammer it out of
The back instead of out the front where you would naturally remove a bolt from? It looks like the replacement pin has a pretty big shoulder but I dont think its tapered.

Never had an issue on a 9, when was it last replaced? Must be rusted in place.

Normally they come out fairly easily.

If I recall its just a plain through hole, can go either way. I think I just have a plain old 1/4-20 bolt in mine. Probably whatever I found in the tractor tool box last time I broke one.

I don't know if you have, but did you line up the hole in the rear piece
with the hole in the flywheel, the flywheel has to be turned till they line
up because it keeps turning after the back plate stops when the shear pin is
broken. I've seen people work and work and still couldn't get the broken
part out because they hadn't lined up the holes. Once they are lined up
they punch right out from my experience. Keith

Could be a shoulder bolt and have to come out the way it went in??

Some shearpins are that way so you cannot use a regular bolt...

I'll give you an entirely different wrinkle. When my MH baler shears a pin, it come right out. And, yes, the bolt can go in either way. If it is not shearing 'evenly' the flywheel
and/or driver may be worn on the spline. Check for a wobble on the flywheel. It also could be the ;bolt that holds the flywheel on could have worked loose. Good luck.

Worst comes to worst, use a loader or engine hoist to remove the flywheel, and press out the bushing, and replace it. Should still be able to get both sides from AGCO yet. The bolts can be had from AGCO as well, they aren't just regular hardware store bolts.

Good afternoon and thank you for the advice.

Im about 2.5 cm through trying to drill the sheer pin out
Its been rough going. Destroyed a lot of drill bits. As far as I can tell its just the left handed Allen screw and that bushing that holds the flywheel to the shaft is that correct?

What do you think pull the flywheel or keep drilling?

Seems like the rusted shear pin should be easier to get out than the flywheel bushing. Have you tried going back to a punch and large hammer after drilling some?

That allen head might not come out, likely take lots off heat, but yes, that all that holds the flywheel on.

I'd quit drilling and remove the flywheel. I might have had to warm up the bolt with a torch, but I think it came out easier than I expected on our #12. You can replace the bushing in the center of the flywheel as well if its sloppy.

Thanks everyone,

I ground the front of the bushing off with an angle grinder and pounded it out the back. Then I lined up the coupling and pounded the bushing in the coupling out. Orders new bushings and sheer pins from agco as recommended. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice I appreciate it.
