JD 224T Baler

Haly

I have a John Deere 224T small square hay baler in which the needle twine guides are worn with a deep groove, and need replacing. How do I replace these twine guides, and the 1/4" steel rivet? Are any special tools needed, or can I use a ball peen hammer, and drill?

Had a 214T which I replaced those rollers that really don't roll but danged if I can remember exactly how I did it but would guess
that drilling from one side and then punching (be very, very careful not to break the needle) the rivet out. I think those rivets
are pretty soft. Also seems to me the rollers were worn clear in to the rivets.

On my New Holland there are no rollers. Just eyelets through the needle. Every 10,000 bales I braze the grove up and file it real smooth. Just finished baling 4700 bales without a broken one. It might be
easier for you to just weld up the grooves and file it smooth.
