Hydraulic Cylinders Spraying

I have two pieces of equipment with single line hydraulic cylinders and when I raise the equipment, the cylinders spray fluid out. I have a bush hog and a haybine that is doing it. Why? What is the fix? Thanks in advance for the replies. Also it happens on two different tractors when hooked to the equipment.

Be nice to know where this leak is your talking about. Either the rod or the gland nut. I would say time for cyl. Overhaul. Plus how can two different cyls do the same thing , if I am reading this correctly. Plus if u only have one hose they are single acting cyls.

Any one-way single hose cylinders I have ever used had a vent in one end. If the seal fails on the piston, oil will leak into the void in the cylinder that is normally filled with air, and it will squirt out the vent when the cylinder is in the extended position. Just my past experience.

The fluid spray is coming out the vent hole on both - when I raise the equipment and it gets fully up. Meaning cutter head on the haybine and when I raise the bush hog up to the max height.

Don't store the machines in the raised position with only the hydraulics holding it up. Use the transport lock to hold up and relieve the pressure on the cylinders.

When hydraulic lines are left at tractor pressure, i.e. 2500 and then sit in the sun, pressures can go as high as 5000 psi. Not good on hoses or cylinder seals.

Your cylinders need new piston seals.

I don't get all this nonsense about double or single acting cylinders and valves. Our JD 1219 mower has a single acting cylinder on it from new we just use the same double acting valve with no problems and have been for over 20 years on several different tractors. As for the oil spewing out the end like already said either reseal or replace cylinder.

my mower uses a single acting cylinder, with a single o-ring for the piston seal. every time the mower is lifted, and happens to come up against the stop it seems to ruin the o ring, and oil squirts out of the vent. i've changed design of piston seal. time will tell if it works.

We had this happen when we added an AC WD-45 tractor, apparently it has higher pressure than our old IH H and blew out a lot of cylinders
