John Deere planter id

Anyone know what model planter I have, it is a finger type planter with rectangular metal seed boxes. I don't see any that look like it. Someone panted it red but I am sure it is John Deere one cover has b30938 cast in to it.

A picture would help but if a 4 row most likely a 1240. There also was a 1440 that was a notill planter. Not many made before it was replaced with the 7000. Tom

I think it is a 1240 cut down to a 2 row, and made to fit a 3 point hitch also they added gandy fertilizer or chemical boxes in the back. I have pictures of it but don't have a way to post them. They painted the whole thing red, put a lot of work in to it. I need to find the finger wheels for it the plastic broke and some thing is locking up the closing wheel in the planter.

Are you sure it's not a 'unit planter'? A unit planter is one where the units are seperate, each with it's own drive off the press wheel. You bolt to a tool bar in any number, row width or combination you desire. A Unit would be an '80 plateless. Those used to be common here. Now they dont even bring scrap price. The last I saw sell were a 'pile' of six. They brought 25 dollars for the lot. Two row on a three point tool bar tells me 'unit planter'. As said,a picture would help.

Thought JD were numbered 70 (older) and 71 for those type units.

Highly valuable around here, Yetter now continues to make them, got the rights from JD.

It was a 1240, had to order new holders for the fingers. Took a bit to find someone at John Deere who would help find the parts. First person said nothing was available, well it turns out they were but not as an assembly.
