David from Kansas - grain drill advice/parts

I have noticed that David from Kansas has been generous in sharing parts and advice. I am looking for several seed boots for a Van Brunt grain drill. If I am reading it correctly, the part is KK169M and fits the 8000 series drills as well. Although the John Deere website has new ones, I'm not ready to pay their price.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

I just reread my post. I'm not asking for free parts - just hate to pay more for parts than for the machine (but if I must, then I must.)

Thanks.

I have an old van brunt grain drill that will be going to the scrap soon.
I will check and see if the feed cups are still there. Let me know if you
are interested and how many you would need.

Are you sure you're looking for short boots? When I was employed at a JD dealer I don't remember selling any short boots(KK169M) but sold a lot of long boots(BB3099M & BB3098M)

This is what I Have. I attached a photoI Hope!!

I think you are correct - long ones. Thank you!

(a little background info on me - and maybe too much). I think I am still young (61) but I got more interested about 20 years ago when I bought a Super A - it reminded me of the one I learned to drive on at granddad's corn and tobacco farm. I have asked my dad (94) about tractors, etc. Even though we have shared work in chainsaws and planting (hand-planting) acres and acres of pines, dad told me that they still used a team of horses when he left for WWII and had little knowledge of "modern machinery".

The ones on my drill are mostly rusted - and maybe rusted through on most of them. I could use nine (9) if available - how much should I send you, please?

Do you still have any discs/openers or boots?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Are yours like the one in the pic? I have around 15. I do have a few
openers also. I will send a photo of those.
As far as price all I would need would be the shipping cost.

Some of mine look like yours - I have a lot of mixed/rigged tubes. Two are plastic funnels duct-taped to garden hoses.

(quoted from post at 16:53:12 04/19/21) It looks like i would have five of the disc openers.

I want to say, again, thanks for all the help.

I see you have have the double openers. Mine are single disc openers, but almost every boot is broken - some more than others (i.e., more of the boot is missing.)

I'm looking at parts catalog and googling now, So, here comes a question that will truly show my ignorance. I see that it is possible to convert from single to double openers, but while I'm finding parts, could I put the five doubles you have and use the best four singles that I currently have? I also should tell you this drill will be used for family consumption - whether in the form of deer or food. Point is, I'm not trying to make money from the operation.

Ok. Mine are pretty good just some surface rust. Do you want the
tubes also? I can take them off and put them in a box and get a
shipping quote. I am thinking they should fit in a large usps flat rate
box. Do you need some disc openers too?

I would see no reason why you couldnt use them in mixed fashion. If
the discs are all about the same size it should work ok. I am not sure
about the mounting but i would think it should be the same for single
or double.
I am glad to be of assistance. Dennis

To determine if double disk boots in lieu of single disk boots can be utilized one will need to know both model of Dawg's & rusty's drills then perform parts research.

I think the different type boots will interchange if boots are equipped with correct attaching hardware.

I have some new old stock single openers. When I researched the numbers it seems some of the openers are interchangeable with different models of
drills, like Tx Jim said. Also have some good used ones, more of one side than the other (L & R). Will look for some pics, or get some new ones.
I think I have a couple of different styles/part numbers. The pic is of the style that I have several of, think the pic might be of a slightly used
one. Thanks. Email is open.

Youre looking for the actual boot that fits behind the disc and receives the seed from the tube, correct? Which side boot do you need because I believe they are left and right handedif you are still in need I may have a few in the near future, I think Im going to cut this bad boy down a bit
