Howdy gang,
simple question.. I think

have rattle can painted some implement tires. well scoured, primed and painted. I have them in a heated shop "curing".

?? how long should I let them set before trying to remount rubber? or does it even help to let them "cure" ?
I know I'll scar them up remounting, but I can fix all that.

Thoughts?

TIA, Fr. Bob

Even though it is dry on top, underneath it is going to be soft much longer. The usual test is to see if you can dent it with your thumb nail.

Pretty sure that tire paint dries almost instantly, the stuff I saw them using at recap shops went on very watery and flashed off quickly it's just to give them a fresh black look, if it was too thick it wouldn't take the tire flexing

He did say he painted the tires, and
most rubber or plastic coatings use a
primer although it's often more a
cleaner really

As others have said on the freshly painted rims the longer the better. Not sure if Rattle can paint is quicker?? An old tire man told me in any case use talcom powder (Baby Powder) to coat the inside of tire and tube where it contacts rim and it would not stick to paint. A tube stuck to paint is very hard to get loose in future repair jobs??Cleddy

Maybe slower if anything when I did my loader I let part of it sit for 6 months through the summer and that paint was baked on .

I painted a fan shroud two weeks ago Im my house its been a minimum of 70 degrees since and it finally feels pretty hard

i bet that stunk up the house, that stuff nasty enough out on the open. but if it works for you all that matters

I've been doing some rattle canning of small parts rather than spraying them with automotive paint with hardener and have found out something that is making me switch brand. If I spray with Rustoleum spray paint it will sometimes dent even 24 hours later. I picked up some Krylon and I'm water sanding the parts an hour later. I can get the same smooth finish with both. Now I don't know how well the Krylon paint holds up but what I'm doing will be out of the sun and weather.

i could never do it in the house, fumes get you high enough outside for me. got burned years ago when i painted tractors
