Keton seed firmers

Had them on last 3 planters. Should come standard. Also spike closing wheels. Also a planter with guage wheels rubbing the seed disc.

I put them on my Deere 7200 close to 20 years ago and am very happy with them. I have been told in some soil types they mud up. That was by some farmers in MN. Tom

Years ago a friend who ran a repair shop and sold short-line including Kinze said farmers should never tear down their old double corncrib. His theory was when you fall for the adds for new and improved planter attachments and find out most are junk you park your planter in front of the crib and take them off and use your loader to push them into the driveway and when you get enough for a truckload you take the to a sale or the smelter. The only extras I ever had on my Deere planters were the tine scratchers I put on when I ran dry fert. between the fert. opener and the planting unit. Maybe our soils are easier to plant in Northeast Iowa but never seen the need for them for the Deere planters always gave us a picket fence stand---Tee

I have used them for 20 yrs also, they will build up dirt under the moist conditions in our area, we do live in SW MN.

Yea, Ive never tried them, I hear in the wet sticky conditions we need to plant into our clay soils they drag and smear the kernels, they can do more harm than good at times here. Dont see them on local planters.

Have had one on my 1170 since 1979. In real dusty conditions you can see the dirt drop out of the cleaner. I check it every spring to make sure the spinner is turning.

I think they do--Don't know for sure. The 4440 was my Dad's--don't remember why we had it on my planter.---Tee

Pre cleaner Question; On a combine if precleaner plugs with dirt, some have a rotating fan in them, air filter will plug with dirt in no time al all. Pre cleaner are necessary, many combine engines have been ruined when precleaner fails and filter plus up chocking engine slowly till the piston rings are shot and it happen quite fast. That is when rotating device in pre cleaner plugs with dirt that got wet and hardened and rotating parts stops moving. The pre cleaner removes the majority of the dirt. I know this from experience.

I farm 35 miles west of Rochester MN. Cannot think of anybody in this area who likes them. But we have heavy soil and too wet more common than planting in dust. Depends on your soils.

use on ihc cyclo 400 on heavy clay with stones. really helped alot to place in correct spot. carry extra. tied on with a heavy plastic tie
