size implement to tractor

I have a John Deere 2040 and am looking for a ripper to open up the soil in my wifes garden. How do I size the implement to the 40 or 45 Hp tractor. All my experence is with big John Deeres. Thanks

What is it,about 35-40 horse?You mean a heavy shank V ripper/subsoiler? About one shank. Or a heavy field cultivator type? About 8 ft, But hey,it's only a garden,not a hundred acres.
