I just bought a Vermeer super i round baler and when I turn the PTO on the belts don't turn, when i spoke with the dealer he said some of the Vermeer balers belt won't turn until you get hay feeding in. Does anyone out there have on of these baler that do this? This baler has hydraulic tension.

My F is that way sometimes especially when it has sat a few months.

So I wouldn’t be too concerned.

Yeah, its pretty common. My 505SI belts always spin, but not at full speed until a core gets formed.

No worries. As soon as you start feeding hay in, it will start spinning on the drum and the belts will go.

We had a 605C in the real early days of round balers. Dealer was a farmer bout 60 miles south of us and for the first couple years he visited us several times to make updates to
the baler. Rubber rollers some other stuff I don't remember. By miles the best update he made (yes it was a factory update) was to put a couple 3/8 bolts with bushings in the
chain that tensioned the belts. This kept the belts loose until the bale was just started. Gave you a chance to get hay all the way across the pickup before things started
rolling. Without this the hay would go between the belts and you had to start over.

End is the belts are supposed to not run till you have enough hay to make a bale about a foot in diameter.

My 505SI always turn,, I always like to open the tail gate at the start of the day to make sure no belts are stuck to a roller for one reason or another then as I start to close the gate I engage the pto just like Vermeer recommends, early balers like a "C" Series or before can have this problem but not any of the later ones if belt length is correct or very worn belts , I have ran a number of different models,, write down your serial number and give Vermeer a call they will set you up with a ops and parts manual no charge,, if you do not have them you need them, there is also a tech help line you can get good help form if needed,

Not positive, but I think you may have that backwards. The belts on my old B always turned full speed, but on my SI it's not until hay is fed in and a core is started. I thought it even said so in the manual, but I don't have it in front of me. I do know that my belts are to the exact correct length, and new. I think everyone I've ever known to have an I series baler said the same thing.

no i do not, mine turn or it will plug mine does have the optional silage drive roller, I have ran over 40,000 bales through this one alone I should know how it works,, I also worked and sold round balers,, I used a 605J for a few years the belts turned in it also,, if they do not when you open the gate, start lowering the gate and turn on the pto they turn even if they are stuck,, been running round balers since 1974

Not sure what to tell you, I have the same baler and I know how it works as well. I suspect they both work the same and our terminology is just different. Im sure that if the belts dont turn at all they are stretched and worn, but they will turn as soon as hay is fed in. I assumed every I baler was like that. Ill check my manual, Im pretty sure it says it in there.

I have the manual and could not find it in there. If I start to open the rear door they start turning. I think from the replies I have gotten I think it's going
to be o.k. Thanks

I have a couple Vermeer round balers also
and I raise gate and then engage pto to
get the belts turning and to clean out
chaff and hay debris when baling. I'd
expect your belts will turn when you lift
gate up fully and then engage pto. You can
register your baler on Vermeers website
and get free manuals still. Good luck.
