New Idea T-6 Baler

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone has any information on the New Idea T-6 square baler.
I have owned one since 96 and it seems that there are very few of them left. I'd be interested to know if anyone has any literature or manuals for them.
Mine works just fine and is in it's original paint, faded of course but still in decent enough shape to warrant me not removing it.

I've found a few older threads about this but not really much info. Does anyone know how many are still around?
I know they were recalled due to design defects but obviously some of them escaped the scrap heap.

There was a W-6 baler at Rantoul in 2017. that is the only old New Idea square baler I have seen or heard of. I presume the W is a wire baler and yours is twine? you sure have a rare one!

Dad had one of those for one year when I was a kid. Darndest needle breaking thing there ever was. The welding shop had a jig to keep welding them. Dad had an extra one so he could drop off a broken one and bring home the one that was fixed.

There was a nice shed kept one hauled into a local scrap dealer about a year ago. He parks stuff like that off to the side for awhile in case someone wants it or parts. I hope it did not get crushed as it was nice. I just do not have enough shed space or I might have bought it. It was gone the last time I stopped. Tom

I remember seeing one at Co Fair in 50's ,but don't remember exactly how it worked.Think it was a straight thru feeder with plunger pulled from rear. Probably one of you can explain.

Yep, mine is the twine variety.
I have taken mine to tractor shows over the years and only found one guy that had a brother that had one. He said the same thing as someone earlier in the thread did, that it broke needles all the time.

I have used mine (Cautiously) in the field and have never had any issues like that, the old guy I talked to thought they could get out of time with themselves easily and that would cause the needle/finger breaking issue.

All the timing adjustments on mine are fairly secure (rust :) ) and I have taken that as a tip to not try and loosen them up.

Thanks for the picture. Like I thought it is a straight thru feeder, from the top and must pull the packing plunger from behind . The current Hesston's feed from the bottom and can use conventional single crank in front. What is the blower for?

This is an old topic, but our club had their yearly event this weekend and I got the old man out and baled some hay with him.

I can't seem to post any links, and my video of the baling was too big.
If anyone is curious search for the MCATAEC Tractors and Engines FaceBook group and view it's recent posts.
Or let me know and I can send you a link.

Got about 10-12 good bales out of him, good knots even though we were hand feeding which if you are familiar with balers it's not ideal at all. Especially with the way these IH knotters work.
He may look rough but he works 100%.

If anyone has any questions for me, let me know!

I'd like to see videos close up from different angles, to see the action of the packer, plunger, knotter, etc. From the one angle I saw on facebook you can't really tell much about the mechanisms.

Fair enough! I'll work on that, it might be a bit but I'll get them.

The packer operation is the wieredst to me, no eccentric drive when it looks like there should be one. Just straight irons coming off the main plunger shaft.
