John Deere 14t baler

Was baling this afternoon and something broke inside the slip clutch. The clutch itself still turns with the flywheel but the shaft coming out to the pto driveline doesn’t spin with the clutch. Sounds like something is loose inside. I’ve looked at my parts book and see there’s a ratchet dog in there. I’m thinking that’s what broke. Anyone know if this part is still available? We’ve got hay down and need to get back up and running before rain moved in this weekend.

I may have that part but I am in Missouri the lake of the Ozarks area. I have a 14T and 214T parts balers

This is a 336 combination over running and slip clutch. It has 2 over running dogs. It has 2 brake discs and springs. The discs on mine wore out entirely so that steel was grinding steel. A 14T looks similar but much more complicated. Took me about 20 minutes to pull mine apart and get the new discs in and back together. I moved the hitch into the closed position to allow the shaft to pull out. Yours has a woodruff key. That might be the culprit.

So you think I possibly sheared the woodruff key? I need then to take out all the bolts with the springs to get inside correct?

Would you be willing to sell it if I needed it? I’m hoping to tear it down tomorrow morning and find out.

I assume you went to JDparts.com and looked at the exploded parts diagram. If not, do that. To me it looks like the woodruff key is what the dog is driven by. An old small baler may be driven by nothing bigger than a key. The 336 is driven by a 3/8 roll pin. Take pictures as you dismantle things for the reassembly.

Correction: On a 336 baler a 3/8'' roll pin through a collar holds slip clutch assembly on the gearbox input shaft BUT ""spines'''' are actually what powers the gearbox

You will need to inspect the ratchet dog inside the clutch housing that hub splines on gearbox input shaft.

My guess is spring(289SE that subs to R117707 @ $3.86) or dog has failed.

Well it turns out it was the ratchet dog. I was able to call Deere and will have it tomorrow morning. That should allow us to get the hay finished up before the rain Saturday. Thanks again for everyone’s help.

Whats the chutes look like on your parts balers? If in good shape would you be willing to part with one?
