Cleaning a baler

We picked up another a NH 570 baler on the cheap it had sat in a barn for over 5 years. When he stopped doing square bales the bale chamber was cleaned out and stored in the back of the barn.We have swept and blew off most of the filth, but there quite a bit of residue still left would it be a good idea to pressure wash it down or better to do it by hand. From what I can see of it the paint is in very good shape.TIA

Pressure washer is fine but do not spray into any bearings and or chains as this will push water in the seals and rollers,, ,

I’d pressure wash, but careful, not some 5000# unit an inch away, but common sense keep a few feet away and work in on tough spots.

As you say with the chains and bearings, stay away or go use the baler in a couple hours and let the grease work back through the bearings properly and the water cook or press back out.

I use to wash with end hose sprayer (not pressure washer)...Quit doing that years ago as I use a ridged plastic
brush with a blower or compressor blower and blow off dirt, etc.

I wipe the skin down with damp rag let dry and cover with canvas tarp.. interesting thing about canvas tarp covering
is next spring the oils from the tarp have transfered to the paint of bailer.. I tarp even though its stored in
shed..just fyi..

Grease and oil everything that takes it...Manual suggests taking chains off and soaking in oil over winter..I have
never done that but take a rag and wipe them and coat with chain spray both for storage and then again in spring
before field.

I dry clean mine out each fall. Replace missing tines and look everything over for bad parts.

I should have said I do not live in rust belt central so maybe my way is different,, I do use air to blow of many things rather than washing I thought he said he had grime/ ect Stuck to the tin work air does not clean that off,, any debris left on it will indeed cause rust in wet areas,, washing does not bother a thing even in wet areas unless the paint has already been left to rust,, even then to get it clean if its like I am guessing it is water needs to be used,, let it air dry before putting back in the shed and you are golden,, I had to wash thousands of machines when at the dealership and my own repair shop before working on them here I seen far more damage from not cleaning and leaving debris on them than by washing them,, but other areas may be different,, machines I keep inside I do not even blow the dust off of every time as there is no rusting in my sheds
