New Holland 451 Sickle Mower?

Just roll the top link in. You do want it to pitch back a little to cut cleaner and keep the guards out of the dirt.

I was curious because i am looking for one to cut around my pond bank needs to go downward maybe 20 degrees?

If your talking about the end of the bar tilting down below grade it will do that without any special adjustment.
I don't remember how much the end of the bar will go before spring tension makes it start floating, (thinking 15 degrees, maybe more), but one can loosen the main spring to allow for more tilt, this will allow the end to have more ground pressure and the bar could tilt down some when the bar is raised.

(quoted from post at 11:19:17 09/03/20) Roll the top link in? I was thinking out.

Actually the top link should be adjusted to keep the mower frame level in the mowing position, tilting the bar to raise or lower the tips of the guards is done at the bars main pivot.

Buy it and put it to work. It's one the best mowers around and just keep ticking. Get a Manuel and torque wrench, you will need both. Mine has a chain others I've seen others that had a rod that helps lift the blade is the clue. That will let you do the ponds an damns. If the drive shaft (my speech or what I call it) goes out no problem A twenty ton press will take the old one out, freeze the new one and press it in, piece of cake. I just saying a very fine machine and easy to work on.,

Run that thing around the field at the end of the year to get rid all those saplings that come up wanting to grow in the hay field.I agree that's abusing it and have to keep plenty parts (blades & guards), and use screws on the bar not braids. Beats the devil of getting hit in the face when bush hogging. For sure my opinion only.
